Our mIssion
To advance sustainability and regenerative agriculture through measurable environmental impact, innovative solutions, and transparent communication. We strive to support healthier orchards, resilient growers, and stronger retail partnerships while improving environmental health for future generations.
OUR GOALS & COMMITMENTS
uPCYCLE 100% OF ORCHARD WOOD WASTE BY 2025
CMI Orchards is committed to processing and upcycling 100% of removed orchard wood waste into wood chips, biochar, and compost at The Soil Center by 2025. This reduces air pollution, contributes to soil improvement, and sequesters carbon dioxide.
gROW Carbon negative tree fruit
CMI Orchards previously committed to producing carbon negative apples, pears, and cherries by 2025. We are happy to share that we are now officially producing carbon negative tree fruit! This means that the process of producing our fresh fruit removes more carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere than it emits. This is made possible by regenerative agriculture practices in our orchards and at The Soil Center.
Our Commitments & Practices
Regenerative Agriculture
Regenerative agriculture is woven into the fabric of our farming practices. We enhance soil health and resilience by using products from The Soil Center such as biochar, compost, worm castings, and custom nutrient blends. Our approach also includes planting cover crops, reducing soil disturbance, and integrating pollinators like bees throughout our orchards to support a thriving, regenerative ecosystem.
Energy & Water Usage
We strive to reduce our environmental footprint by optimizing water and energy use across our operations. Through advanced monitoring and filtration systems, and the transition from traditional sprays to water-saving mist foggers, we conserve resources while maintaining fruit quality. Our facilities also feature natural lighting elements like windows and skylights to lower energy consumption and enhance the working environment for our team.
Integrated Pest Management
We reduce chemical use by employing precise, environmentally conscious pest management. Our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach uses tools like pest tents, drones for monitoring, and highly targeted spraying to treat only where and when it is needed. We know how important bees are for growing great fruit, so we use bee-friendly practices in our orchards, like reducing pesticide use, to help keep pollinators safe and healthy. This supports better harvests and a healthier environment.
Organic Production
Daisy Girl Organics® is CMI Orchards’ flagship organic program, proudly offering certified organic apples, pears, and cherries grown with integrity and care. Each piece of fruit is a reflection of our commitment to sustainability and is grown using environmentally responsible practices that support soil health, protect pollinators, and reduce synthetic inputs. Daisy Girl Organics® brings delicious, organic produce from our orchards to your table, naturally.
Packaging
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through smarter, more sustainable packaging solutions. We prioritize minimalistic designs that use recyclable, compostable, and reusable materials, many of which are sourced from certified sustainable programs like the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). By minimizing paper use and embracing innovative, eco-friendly materials, we aim to deliver exceptional fruit with a lighter footprint.
Community Involvement
Our commitment to community is rooted in our core values of service, compassion, and community engagement. Through our American Dream® program, we support veterans, active military, and underserved families by partnering with organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and local shelters. We also promote environmental education through collaborations with the NCW Beekeeper’s Association and the Washington Apple Education Foundation.
